2017 was the warmest year and second driest on record according to Meteorological agency AEMET.

The annual average temperature was 16.2ºC – an average increase of 1.1% – whilst rainfall fell by over a quarter

The country endured five heat waves last year, with only one major cold snap last January.

With the mild weather forecast to continue through January, there is a real danger of Spain experiencing a drought this year.
