In October 2023, the International Theatre Studio (ITS) staged a sell out production of ‘Calendar Girls’, directed by Peter Brook.
Following on from the play’s success, ITS decided to offer a charity calendar featuring various female members of the theatre group with the proceeds going to the Elena Gaite Foundation, which distributes much needed funds to local cancer charities. Photographs were taken by Alan Jones and the calendar was put together by Fiona Poole. As each page was sponsored by local companies, the full profits from the sales were able to be donated to the Foundation.
On the evening of January 9, (ITS) were delighted to present a cheque for €4,000 to the Elena Gaite Foundation at a press event held in La Sala, Puerto Banus
In attendance were representatives of the press, the brave ladies that posed for the charity calendar, the founder of the Elena Gaite Foundation, representatives from the main charities that the foundation supports plus cast and members of the ITS production of Calendar Girls.
The night opened with the ladies of the charity calendar singing a verse of ‘Jerusalem’, which is the song adopted by the Women’s Institute across the globe. Martin Curd, president of ITS explained a little about the play and the calendar before handing over to the charities, all of whom gave emotional speeches.
