Marbella traffic ground to a halt this morning as an overturned lorry caused FIFTEEN kilometres of tailbacks.
The crash happened at the height of the morning rush hour, just opposite the Hotel Cortijo Blanco, when the truck clipped a barrier and went over on its side, blocking both lanes on the bush approach to San Pedro.
The resulting chaos saw frustrated motorists stuck in queues for over two hours, while others took to the backroads as they struggled to get to work.
To add to the problems, a crash near Calahonda also resulted in tailbacks, while the planned Women’s Tour of Andalucia cycle race, which was scheduled to take place along the coast, was cancelled.
Once again the lack of a ‘hard shoulder’ lane, and the fact that the toll road was not immediately opened for free to ease the horrendous congestion, drew angry reponses from those trapped in traffic.
