Marina Sotogrande Classic Week, one of the most important and exciting sailing events in Spain, takes place in Sotogrande Marina this week.
Running from July 4-7, Marina Sotogrande Classic Week features two categories of races.
“Belle Class 15M” is for classic boats more than 100 years old. The IYRU Fifteen Metre class yachts were constructed to the First International rule of 1907. A total of 20 15mR yachts were built between 1907 and 1917. The four that have survived are still actively raced and will be the at the regatta. These include the beautiful Hispania, built in 1909 for the King of Spain, Alfonso XIII, to compete in 15 metre class racing.
A more modern style of racing is represented by the J80 class yachts, bound to feature some close racing.
Away from the water there will be plenty for spectators to do. “The Village” will feature food, drink, art, spectactor areas, live music and DJs, as well as a classic car parade on July 7.
The boats will be training on July 4, with the races starting at 11am each day from July 5.
