Holidaymakers and marine professionals worked together to try and save a baby dolphin on Sunday
The dolphin was spotted on Sunday afternoon in trouble in the waters off Rio Real beach. Passers by placed the mammal in a small boat filled with water and alerted the authorities. Marbella Town Hall then contacted CREAM, the agency that specialises in the rescue of marine species, who rushed a team to the scene.
The metre-long Bottlenose dophin, judged to be about 18 months old, was assessed by vets to have several wounds and was transferred to the CREAM centre in Malaga, where it sadly died today.
