Marbella’s emblematic mountain La Concha was ablaze last night.

The forest fire started at midnight in the Juanar area of the mountain, with the blaze clearly visible from Marbella itself.

With night prohibiting the use of aircraft, 53 firefighters were dispatched to tackle the fire through the night. Helicopters were brought in at first light, and the MA-5300 road that leads to the Refugio de Juanar was closed, mainly because smoke made driving dangerous.

By 10.45 Infoca reported on Twitter that the fire had been stabilised and there were no reports of any injures or damage to property. The cause of the blaze has yet to be established.
