The mixed relay team at Ironman

Ironman puts Marbella on the sporting map

It may have caused traffic confusion for anyone trying to get into Puerto Banus last weekend, but Marbella mayor Angeles Muñoz, hailed Ironman 70.3 a great success.

With around 1,300 participants from more than 60 countries, Muñoz, highlighted the event’s success, especially the Sampedreño team – Marina Castro, Ismael Rojas and Javier Díaz Carretero – competing under the Marbella brand, who were champions of the mixed relay category.

In the international event, which had representatives from more than 60 countries, first place went to Patrick Cometta and Lucy Byram in the male and female categories, respectively.

This year’s Ironman that began with swimming (1,900 m), continued with cycling (90 kilometers) in a circuit that crossed the municipalities of Ojén, Monda, Coín and Cártama, and ended with a marathon (21 kilometres) on the Paseo Marítimo de Marbella.
