If a week is a long time in politics, then a morning is even longer if you are dealing with the Junta de Andalucia, as today’s events proved.
The Covid confusion began when the Junta put out a BoE that seemed to suggest that the entire province was about to adopt strict new measures to halt the spread of Coronavirus. A quick flick through the websites of several Spanish national newspapers confirmed this and, as you would expect, Social Media went into meltdown. Just for a change.
By midday, however, the Junta realised the confusion that the statement had caused and updated its website.
“The new measures approved by the Junta de Andalucía to fight against the spread of Covid-19 do not affect the entire Andalusian community, as it is spreading through WhatsApp, but refer exclusively to localities or parts of them in which the competent health authority adopt measures to restrict mobility, at this time, only Casariche, in Seville”, it said.
So it seems that, for now, it’s a case of “Keep Calm and Carry On”…
