Marbella’s beaches were once again badly damaged by bad weather on Monday and Tuesday, with the mayor calling for urgent action.
Marbella Mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, described the situation as “unsustainable” and that the beaches “cannot withstand one more storm”.
Muñoz, urged central government “to react and begin the breakwater project once and for all”, and wondered “how is it possible that the Ministry for the Environment takes five years to issue an environmental report?”.
The Mayor has requested a meeting with Minister Teresa Ribera, where she will demand “a political commitment that includes deadlines for the stabilisation of our coast.”
The worst affected areas were El Alicate (especially Costabella), La Fontanilla, El Faro and Casablanca, with damage to public facilities such as toilets, booths and lifeguard posts and Trocadero Playa Beach Restaurant.
