Marbella Mayor , José Bernal, moved to calm the fears of the impact of Brexit following the results of the European Union referendum.
Bernal believes that “Brexit” will not lead to a negative impact for Marbella in particular and the Costa del Sol in general.
“The majority of tourists that come to Marbella come from the United Kingdom ” , she said” Nothing will happen in the short term. Medium and long -term bilateral relations will be normalised and we will establish agreements between the UK and Spain . ”
Bernal added that ” The UK still wishes to continue to maintain trade and economic relations with the rest of Europe, including our country.”
Bernal, however, made no reference to the impact of the Brexit on Marbella’s substantial British expat population, for whom healthcare and residence are now major uncertainties.
