The continuing uncertainty and concern about the Omicron variant of the virus had a direct impact on the number of hotel bookings over the Christmas holidays.
The latest figures from the Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos) show that municipalites such as Fuengirola, Mijas, Valle del Guadalhorce and Benahavís, had occupancy levels below 35% . Aehcos attributed this data to the Omicron variant causing cancellations during the Christmas holidays.
Marbella remained the most popular destination, recording 67.06% occupancy, followed by Málaga with 59.79% . Marbella Town Hall, however, put that figure far higher, with 85% occupancy on New Year’s Eve.
International tourists made up 60% of hotel bookings over the festive season.
