Best View: From the top of La Concha. I’ve only done it once but would love to go up there again. It’s really important to pick your day well as you need a cloudless sky.
Best Place for Coffee: I’m funny about my coffee, especially the first one of the day. I like it in a glass, a slow pour with froth straight from the machine. There’s a little bar up by the cemetery in San Pedro that scores a 10 for me every time.
Best for Eating: Paella’s Y Mas in Marbella Town. When I first heard the name of this restaurant, it sounded like another awful chain. Not at all! The head chef has worked in the north of Spain at a Michelin star restaurant and he and his partner came to Marbella to set up Paella’s Y Mas. The interiors are by Pedro Peña and he´s done a fine job. The food is delicious. I’ve been there with groups for an event and for dinner with friends and it never missed the spot. Their speciality is rice dishes and Paella´s but as the name suggests, there’s a whole lot more on the menu.
Best for showing visitors the real Marbella: Old Town Marbella. So many people forget how charming the Old Town is. There are wonderful places tucked away on quiet squares and a Tapas Tour of the Old Town is ever popular.
Best for quiet moments: There’s nothing better than a beach clue/restaurant “Out Of Season”. Sylt is one of my favourites and Salduna Beach is a perfect spot for unwinding.
Best for lively ones: I’m far too old for that! I tend to get lively early and then go home before the mess starts. I always enjoy the Living Room and we’ve had some great nights at Cranberries in San Pedro.
I couldn’t live without: the difference the Boulevard has made to San Pedro. It’s brought a new swagger to the area and namely the culinary scene and taken note and stepped up its game. I can´t congratulate the Marbella Town Council enough on a job well done.
Best Shopping: La Cañada first thing on a Monday Morning. I ve been there before doors open at 10am at it’s a joy, especially if you’ve got a lot to do in a short time period. I’m a sucker for the men’s store FORECAST.
Best Beach: Once a year we treat ourselves and splurge at Pura. It’s worth every penny.
Personal Best: Best night in my memory is my brother Reuben’s 30th Birthday Bonanza at the Cable Ski up in San Pedro. We rented the whole chiringuito, they did up proud with the catering and we danced into the wee hours but he lake. It was such a brilliant evening.
