In a move that brought howls of protest from the nightlife industry, the Junta de Andalucia announced that as of Thursday, August 5, you will need to produce a EU COVID Digital Certificate or negative diagnostic test (antigen test or PCR) to get into a nightclub. It has also decided to extend the 2am – 7am curfew measures for another week.
The Junta’s Panel of Experts have introduced these measures because of “the upward trend of the pandemic in recent weeks”. Jesús Aguirre, the Minister of Health and Families pointed out that “the incidence in the young population continues to be very high due to the Delta variant”. Latest figures show that infections amongs young people between 20-29 are three times the Andalusian average.
The EU Covid Digital Certificate includes the vaccination schedule, the recovery certificate or a negative PDIA in the past 72 hours.
In Andalucia, it can be downloaded through ClicSalud +, the Salud Andalucía app or at the health centres.
For a nightlife industry that was struggling to come to terms with the new protocols, this latest requirement will have a significant impact. Current figures show that only 58 percent of the 20-19 group have had one dose. As well as this many 18 and 19 year olds have only just received their first vaccination, making it impossible to gain access to nightclubs until September at the earliest. With the vast majority of their customers under the age of 30, summer 2021 looks grim for nightlife.
