Marbella Town Hall has added its voice to the growing movement across Spain against bullfighting.
Miguel Diaz, head of communications for the Town Hall, has announced that Radio Television Marbella (RTVM), the official radio and television station for the town, will no longer report on, promote or take advertising from any bullfights both in Marbella or nationally.
Diaz explained that the new Town Hall does not support any activity that promotes the mistreatment of animals and that in Marbella bullfighting was considered as such. The media blackout joins other initiatives being developed to support zero abuse.
“We want public television and other media to promote positive values of animal awareness” said Diaz. “Marbella now has a policy of respect for animals”.
A public demonstration against a bullfight scheduled for Sunday at Marbella’s Plaza de Toros is due to take place today. The rally will be held on the Avenida del Mar, next to the Dali statues, at 8pm.
Organisers aim to highlight the suffering of the animals, as well as the practice of giving away cheap or free tickets to tour operators, encouraging tourists to visit the event.
