A French national who refused to wear a mask was left to rue his decision last week as he ended up in the cells.
This wasn’t, however, the result of new draconian powers handed out to the Marbella police. The man in question turned out to be a wanted criminal on the run from the French authorities.
The man was arrested in the early hours of Saturday on Avenida de Julio Iglesias in Puerto Banús. A National Police patrol spotted him walking without a mask and, when they checked his I.D., discovered that he was subject to a European Detention and Surrender Order (O.E.D.E.).
The man had been on the run from the French authorities since June, in relation to drug trafficking offenses.
After his arrest, the 40-year-old French national was transfered to Madrid, ahead of extradition to France.
