The proposed San P wheel

Not the Wheel Deal!

It was touted as a project that would attract investment and have tourists flocking to San Pedro

Launched by Marbella mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, in June 2020 – It’s the Wheel Deal for San Pedro! – the 50-metre-high panoramic Ferris wheel on the boulevard of San Pedro Alcántara, was supposed to be operational by summer 2021.

Pandemic nothwithstanding, the project will now not be rolled out, as it failed to attract a single bid for tender – including from Sunset Beach View S.L., the company that put forward the initial idea.

Although the brakes have been applied to the wheel, I can’t help but think that the residents of El Ingenio, not to mention the students at the ASPENDEM facility, that the tourist attraction would have directly overlooked, must be breathing a sigh of relief.

And although Marbella City Council may be bemoaning the loss of the Big Wheel, they can take some comfort in the other fairground themed attractions that the town still boasts.

These include the Bumper Cars and Rollercoaster Rides that are a daily feature of driving to and from San Pedro, the Shooting Gallery that sets up in Puerto Banus each summer, and of course the House of Fun that is the Town Hall itself!
