Top seed Pablo Carreño became the first Spanish ATP Champion of 2021 when he claimed the AnyTech365 Andalucía Open title yesterday.
Carreño beat Jaume Munar by 6-1; 2-6 and 6-4 in two hours and twenty minutes, earning the fifth title of his career and his 200th tour win. The title takes him to 12th in the FedEx ATP Rankings world rankings.
Held at the Club de Tenis Puente Romano, Carreño blitzed the first set (6-1). In the second one, Munar, competing in his first final on the ATP Tour, hit back and won 2-6.
The third and decisive set was a tough battle. At 4-4 Carreño broke Munar’s serve and then served out to take the trophy
Tennis legends Manolo Santana (four times Grand Slam champion) and Björn Borg (former world number one and 11 times Grand Slam champion) were on hand to present the trophies to the winner and runner-up.
In the doubles, Uruguayan Ariel Behar and Ecuadorian Gonzalo Escobar (below) beat Bosnian Tomislav Brkic and Serbian Nikola Cacic, taking revenge for their loss to same opponents in the previous tournament in Buenos Aires in March.
