Marbella firefighters raced to contain a blaze that broke out last night in Benahavis.
The fire, which was declared at 9pm, caused consternation among residents due to the strong winds, dry nature of the terrain and the fact that aircraft would not be able to tackle the blaze until first light.
Two heavy firefighting vehicles and 32 firefighters attended the blaze that affected the Campanes area.
Fortunately this prompt response soon brough the fire under contral and it was declared stablalised two hours later. Five hectares of land were affected.
The overnight rain has brought some much needed relief to the countryside around Marbella, which had been dangerously dry due to the unseasonably mild climate.
