Sarah goes for World Gold!

Inspirational athlete Sarah Almagro is aiming to bring back surfing gold from California, with the backing of the ‘Marca Marbella’ sponsorship programme.

At a presentation this week, mayor Ángeles Muñoz, commented that “she has the absolute support of the City Council, because the image of our city is reinforced with a person like her, who stands out for her professional career and her spirit of improvement”, while stressing that “she is an example for everyone, because in a time of adversity she has shown how to see the positive side and has never given up”.

Sarah was only 18 when she lost both arms and legs due to sepsis resulting from meningococcal meningitis serotype Y. Despite being in a coma, Sarah fought back. At the recent adapted Surf championship ‘Abanca Pantín Classic Galicia Pro’ she finished runner up in her category just behind the European champion, Nuno Vitorino, from Portugal.

Sarah thanked the City Council for its support and explained that “my participation in the ISA World Para Surfing Championship 2022, which will take place from December 5 – 12, is possible thanks to ‘Marca Marbella, because on this occasion I couldn’t do it through the Spanish Federation. It is a real honour to represent the city from more than 9,000 kilometers away and my goal is to win the gold medal”.
