Settling of scores suspected in Marbella Slaying

The chaotic summer in Marbella continued on Friday with a fatal shooting in Nueva Andalucia.

Police were called to a rented villa in the “Golf Valley” in the early hours of Friday where they discovered the body of a 30-year-old French national of Moroccan origin. The victim had died of a single gunshot to the head.

Police believe that the killing may be the result of the settling of scores between criminal gangs, and could be in retaliation for the wounding of a 27-year-old Englishman earlier this year.

In that incident, the victim was shot four times in the legs by attackers that he described as Moroccan, who stole his watch. The Englishman did not co-operate further with the police at the time.

The killing marked the end of a chaotic week in Marbella, following the blaze that extensively damaged the Sisu Boutique Hotel and the Saturday night gunpoint kidnapping of an associate of drug lord Said Chaou.
