Juanma Moreno, President of the Junta de Andalucia, has said that all the evidence behind the devasting Sierra Bermeja fires, which has left one firefighter dead and more than 5,000 hectares destroyed, points to arsion.
On a visit to the emergency control centre that is coordinating the fight against the massive blaze, Moreno said that the fire services had found two starting points for the fire. Both were piles of litter with a pine cone on top that had been started with a cigarette lighter. “Everything indicates that this was intentional, but we are waiting for the investigation to confirm it definitively.
Moreno said that he hoped whoever was behind the fires would not ” sleep soundly” because the authorities would go after them and they would be brought to justice.
