Alicia Duggan of The Bookshop reviews How to Fall in Love with a Man Who Lives in a Bush
by Emmy Abrahamson
Part fiction, part autobiography, How to Fall in Love with a Man Who Lives in a Bush is a witty romantic comedy with a twist.
Julia is single, late twenties woman, living in Vienna and teaching English in a language school. Following a failed relationship and a succession of disastrous dates, Julia has begun to worry that she will never find “The One”.
With most of her friends either married or in relationships, Julia has a rather lonely social life and spends most of her time off donating blood, taking surveys and going for free hearing tests in an effort at social interaction and to avoid going home to her empty apartment.
Then one day while waiting for a class to start Julia meets Ben. Ben is tall, dark, handsome, funny and self-assured. Ben also stinks! He has dirty clothes, a matted beard, no shoes and, as it turns out, lives in an actual bush.
In spite of all that Julia is smitten, but how can you have a relationship with someone who smells so bad you can’t kiss them without retching?
A lovely light-hearted read that will leave you smiling.
