Thousands of women took part in gatherings across Spain to mark International Women’s Day yesterday, in support of an end to domestic violence.
Forty four women in Spain were killed by their partners or former partners in 2016 and at least 16 women have been murdered so far this year
Marbella joined the celebration of the International Women’s Day at the Teatro Cuidad de Marbella. Mayor José Bernal spoke to Marbella students and reminded them that “the day of equality must be celebrated not only today, but 365 days a year.”
For her part, the Councilor for Equality, Ana Leschiera urged students “to make sure that every action, however small, must carry the slogan of equality. ”
“Marbella will continue to show its commitment to equal opportunities” she added.
