Trocadero Marbella Rugby Club 31 – 24 CD Arquitectura
Trocadero Marbella Rugby Club finished their second season is some style on Saturday with a stunning last minute victory.
Marbella went into the game eighth in the league and playing CD Arquitectura, three places above them and one of oldest names in Spanish rugby -established in 1931 – who had brought vocal support from Madrid.
The home side had little respect for tradition, however, and blitzed the visitors all over the field, going into the break with a 17-0 lead.
The beginning of the second half was a completely different game however, and as the weather turned colder Trocadero Marbella Rugby Club seemed to freeze as they conceeded 21 points in first 20 minutes. Things got worse as they went down to 13 men at one point in the second half with a yellow and a red card in quick succession and CD Arquitectura lead 24-17.
Incredibly, and with only 14 men on the field, Marbella shook themselves out of their daze in the last minutes of the game. Man of the match Ignacio Molina won a vital lineout ball that lead to a scrum in their opponent’s half and the home side broke to win a dramatic match with a converted try and send the Marbella crowd wild!
