Trocadero Marbella Rugby Club took a massive step to making the finals of the Campeonato de Liga AON de la Primera yesterday.
A 16-0 victory over CR Malaga, a team that Marbella had previously recorded a loss and a draw to, means that Marbella has a strong chance of making the final in Seville.
In front of an estimated 300 spectators, Marbella put on a hard-fought display and dominated most of the possesion and territory. Two tries from Jorge Hdez.-Gil and Burger Heldenguys gave Marbella a 10-0 lead at half time.
The only downside to the first half was an injury to Marbella player Javi Garci, who sustained a dislocated hip and had to be stretchered off the field and given oxygen before being taken to hospital.
Marbella continued to dominate in the second half, with a further two penalties to leave a final score of 16-0. Late in the match the game turned scrappy with a player from both sides being sin binned.,
Trocadero Marbella Rugby Club will take a 16 point avantage to CR Malaga in the return leg that takes place this Sunday.
