Fortress Bahia lived up to its name on Sunday as Trocadero Marbella Rugby Club won their last game of the season.
Facing third placed Sanitas Alcobendas B from Madrid, the home side showed more ambition in the first half, although the only points scored were penalties for both sides, going in at half time 3-3. The teams also marked a minutes silence before the start of the match for the victims of the London attacks.
Early in the second half, Marbella scored a decisive try, with man of the match Stefano Tucconi breaking through the defense and going over between the posts and Lucas Pomposiello. This was the cue for the packed home stands to go crazy, with drums, flags and some impassioned, if off key, “singing”.
Sanitas Alcobendas came back with a late try, making the final few minutes tense ones, but Trocadero Marbella Rugby Club hung on to the whistle and a 13-10 victory.
A fantastic final win to mark an outstanding first season in the national league for Tracadero Marbella Rugby Club. Lets´s hope that the off field issues are quickly resolved so that the club can concentrate fully on progressing in 2017/2018!
