UK Spanish homeowners, potential investors and rental clients allowed to travel from March 29 , but caution urged

Good news for Spanish second home owners in the UK.

From March 29, people will be allowed to leave the UK in connection with the purchase, sale, letting or rental of a residential property. The exemption allows people to travel abroad “in connection with the purchase, sale, letting or rental of a residential property”.

Those activities include visiting an estate agent, developer sales office or show home, viewing residential properties to rent or buy, and preparing a property for moving in. This is excellent news for those who want to buy second homes and those who already own them particularly in light of the broader travel ban extension to 30 June.

Spain has also announced that it lift restrictions on arrivals from Britain on March 30, These have been in place since December in an attempt to contain the spread of new strains of coronavirus

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey España, comments:

“The news that Britons can travel once more from March 29 in order to purchase, sell or rent out a residential property overseas is excellent news. It’s the first step to unlocking the significant pent up demand for Spanish second homes that we’ve seen building up over the past year. We look forward to welcoming all those who have taken virtual tours of our properties into our show homes to finally see the homes in person.

“We had already anticipated a flurry of bookings on April 12 when the UK government will (hopefully) announce that international travel can resume from 17 May. Now, Britons looking to purchase a second home can do so much sooner than they previously planned, which is excellent news both for those families and for the Spanish property market.”

The news comes on the day that Taylor Wimpey España launches its brand news site in Ses Salines, on the southern Mallorca coast: Ikat.

Ikat has just been launched in Mallorca

Ikat (pictured above) is a collection of ground floor apartments with gardens, penthouses with solarium terraces, and duplexes with both, centrally located in Ses Salines. It’s ideal for year-round living in a really authentic and pretty little town, without being on a resort and is well pricedfor Mallorca: from €260,000 plus VAT.

Keith Rule, UK Office Director of CostaLuz Lawyers, comments:

“It’s excellent news that British second home owners will be able to travel overseas once more from 29 March in connection with the purchase, sale, letting or rental of a residential property. With so many owners having been frustrated by their inability to travel, we expect to see a rush of activity within the sector. However, we urge second home owners, or those planning to purchase second homes, to continue to make decision with their heads, rather than their hearts, and not rush into anything without due consideration and independent legal and financial advice.”
