Do you love Marbella? Here’s the chance to prove it!
Marbella has been selected from among twenty tourist cities, and from an initial list of 400 candidates, as ‘Best European Destination 2022’ by travel website European Best Destinations https://www.europeanbestdestinations.com/ in association with Eden Network, created by the European Commission .
Mayor Ángeles Muñoz commented that “just the fact of having come this far is a great achievement for the municipality, since it will mean a promotion that will reach more than 420 million travellers”.
In addition, it has highlighted that the 20 destinations will be published both on the most visited platform dedicated to tourism in Europe, as well as in relevant associated media such as Forbes USA, Condé Nast Travelers, Geo, National Geographic, Yahoo or Corriere Viaggi. The Mayor has encouraged citizens to vote online for Marbella until next February 10 through the European Best Destinations website.
The first mayor has indicated that Marbella has been selected along with destinations such as London, Athens, Prague, Rome, Istanbul, Lucerne, Crete or Bavaria. “We are going to be competing with cities of the highest level, as the only chosen Spanish city ”, Muñoz commented while highlighting “the magnificent work” carried out by the Tourist Office as well as “the quality of life, our climate, the possibility of playing sports, gastronomy and the leisure, health and shopping”.
Muñoz also highlighted the impact that the nomination of being ‘Best European Destination’ has had in previous editions. Dinant (Belgium ), which ranked number 13, had a tourist growth of more than 25 percent compared to the previous year and estimated the economic impact at more than 15 million euros. The increase in visitors in cities such as Bordeaux, Milan, Porto, Budapest, Zagreb was between 13 and 41 percent. “We are going to carry out an information campaign to publicise what this recognition entails, which, in addition, we want it to be a hallmark of the city itself,” she added
