Marbella residents living close to the Rio Verde may have noticed that it has been flowing freely over the past week
This is, in part, due to the heavy rainfall that we experienced last weekend, but not directly.
The surge in water was due to the authorities at the Embalse de la Concepción, the huge dam on the way up to Istan, opening the floodgates as a precaution ahead of the forecast rains.
The level of the reservior stood at 86%, and so we were treated to the spectacular sight of water thundering out of the floodgates. (Thanks to Hans Moller for the photo).
The Pandemic has also affected the team at the dam. Living on the lake as I do, I recently called my contact there (The Damn Man, if you will) to be informed that most of the staff were currently working from home.
Working from home maintaining a large reservoir has to be one of the most surreal experiences of 2021 thus far!
