Marbella residents have set up an appeal for a local teenager who has suffered a life changing illness.

Sarah Almargo, 18, suffered a a sepsis attack this summer caused by meningococcal and bacteria, which triggered a multi organ collapse. After spending 10 days in a coma, Sarah had to undergo several life saving operations, including the amputation of both her hands and feet. Although still in hospital, and undergoing grafts and dialysis brave Sarah is grateful to be alive and is looking forward to a positive future.

An active tennis player and surfer, the next stage of Sarah’s recovery is rehabilitation, including the prosthesis she needs to be able to continue her life. Because of this her family have created a charity, Somos Tu Ola, to raise money and awareness not only for Sarah, but also for other children in the same situation, and to provide information and experience to families who are going through similar situations.

Sarah commented “I am grateful because this disease has a 93% mortality rate”, adding “With my prosthesis, no one will stop me going forward in life!”
