A woman was been detained following the hit and run death of Marbella sportsman Mario Zumaquero on Sunday.
The 44-year-old was struck by a vehicle at approximately 6.50am on Sunday as he cycled on the A-7 close to Diana Park.
The driver failed to stop at the scene and although witnesses quickly called the emergency services, they were unable to save Zumaquero.
The accident provoked outrage on Social Media, as friends asked the community to be on the lookout for a Mercedes with damage on the right hand side.
Guardia Civil located the car on Sunday evening, and the investigation is now ongoing to determine if the woman was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported that the car drove for several kilometres with the bike embedded in the windscreen, before stopping to discard it by the side of the A-7.
